Robbing You of Affordable Health Care
Back to Full Blog

Incredibly ridiculous as it seems, a bunch of conservative Americans are trying hard to take away your affordable health care.  We are on the verge of having health care available for all Americans, young and old.  It was what Obama wanted for us, and one of the reasons we voted him in as President.  Congress has obliged by writing bills, although not in their truest beneficial form thanks to lobbying and health industry money, that await discussion.

What isn't so ridiculous is the fact that the health care industry and the insurance companies, that make billions off of your paying through the nose for care, are the ones footing the bill for the white screaming machine behind that big belly to disrupt the meetings so you can't learn the facts about the health care bills awaiting approval.

This machine is partially rooted in the anti-abortion movement.  The addresses were saved, are now computerized, and we saw the latest test run recently in the tea-bag uproar and the birth certificate fiasco.

Medi-Care and Medicaid are government programs.  The insurance companies are somewhat involved, since they want to keep their foot in the door for access to American check-books.   The government, in fact, can run things pretty well.  Given the choice between corporate pirates who have  no guiding principle except profit, and the government, with people just wanting to do their job, I'll take the government any day.

Why do these people continually buy into the force feeding that steers them into acting against their own best interest?  It seems unawareness and ignorance play a big part.  An overblown fear of the government plays another part.

I can't help but notice that the face of these meeting stormers is pretty white, not like the multi-cultural face of the true community of America.

My Republican dad, grandmother, and gggggggggrandfolks who fought in the war for independence of the country must absolutely be spinning in their graves.  What we are seeing from the corporate faux news is not news; it is corporate programming to influence you into choosing to ignore your best interest.  If you lose your job, and you or a family member gets sick, you will be out in the cold.  I know Reagan seemed to believe (as other conservatives do) that the charities would pick up the slack when he signed a bill in California, as governor, to end the funding to mental institutions.  Whatever charity appeared on the scene was way too little.  What we got was a population of mentally ill people who are homeless, living on the streets.

We deserve better health care than what we get, as a rule, and we can receive it, with a health program to be sure every American has adequate health care.  And it won't cost you bankruptcy or your home to get it.

I've seen one close friend pass away this year because of lack of health care.  She couldn't afford insurance, and made too much money to qualify for Medi-Cal.   Sadly, lives are being lost while we tolerate these screamers out to deny us health care, at the behest of the insurance companies and the for-profit health care industry.   What a tragedy of a country we've become because of profit and greed.

Unfortunately, we are largely a nation of sheep easily fleeced by greedy corporate interests. Our schools need to concentrate more on teaching critical thinking skills.

I am sorry to disagree. I am a nurse and the poor get everything for nothing and the rich don't worry too much about it.
The people in between have to pay for what others are getting free that is why it is so expensive.
I agree ...we need a change
I disagree that government is the answer...anything government is involved with running gets out of hand....medicare is about to crumble...and that is no ones fault but the government who makes promises with our money
fee for services is the best way....

Ever think that many of the screamers at these meetings get paid with the promise of health care for them and their families? Could be happening.

I'm not sure exactly where your disagreement is. You probably know how the average American health ratings have fallen drastically in comparison to other industrialized countries. Actually most of the countries in the Middle East make sure their citizens receive adequate health care.

It would make sense to provide anyone inside our borders with health care because we all use the same ATMs, grocery carts, and gas stations! I don't really want people infected with TB or another serious disease sending their kids to school to sit next to my child in the classroom. The tentative bills that are now under consideration do not ensure that illegal aliens would get "free health care".

If the Bush and Reagan tax cuts given to the extremely wealthy were sllowed to expire, the health care would be covered. The cost of Bush's war could have provided Americans with health care.

As a 7th generation American, and 4 generation Californian, I have worked hard and paid taxes for most of my adult life. I was disabled due to fibromyalgia and arthritis a few years ago. I cannot afford health insurance. Fortunately I do qualify for Medi-Cal, which is a phenomenal program. No complaints, whatsoever. In fact, I receive better care from more up-to-date doctors under Medi-Cal than I did when I paid out-of-pocket.

Since there is no one health care plan at this point, it is senseless to debate any specific point in it.

The founders of the US wanted to provide for the common welfare of it's citizens. People are asking to go back to the beginning of our country's standards and values, which means for the common welfare of all. How else would some have us 'go back'? No cars or roads? Slavery of adults and children? No vote for women? No plumbing?

All these insurance company-provided talking points might sound good and strike emotional chords in many. But if examined and analyzed, they are false and empty - lies, all lies.

What has happened to a democracy which includes freedom of speech? People are being bullied and threatened, subtly or overtly, and not allowed to have their say. Our freedom of speech, our line of communication between government and citizen, and our democracy have been deliberately taken by a few, to the detriment of many, including themselves! The only to benefit from a failure of America to enact health care reform would be the multi-million dollar beneficiaries in the insurance company board rooms.

Once health care reform is underwary, it's time to stop these monopolies and get money out of the government!

Thank you for your comment, and please continue the dialogue, if you'd like. I'm giving my passionate opinion brought about through my experience. So far, I don't buy any argument against health care reform that I hear. I trust the government far more than I trust any insurance company CEO, pharmaceutical company, bankers, or Wall Street thugs.

Hi, MrOrnery1851! Thanks for stopping in to comment. You bring up a great point! These people are benefiting in some way. What strikes me as interesting is the way these screaming mimi's sound polished...rehearsals? The tears. And, of course, a few are being trotted out, as was Sarah (Bailin') Palin, to enjoy their time in the spotlight on Faux News! This is so freaking funny it seems manufactured (which it is) but it's so pathetic as far as what it's doing to people and a great system of government.

Take care!

L.

that is where we disagree...I dont trust the government...and remember what they give us, they control and we pay for it.

In socialistic medicine there are many items that are taken care of ..like physicals and general immunizations...but there are many illnesses that are capped and your treatment is stopped as such with many cancers...more people die in socialistic countries from cancer than do here..many more...because they stop treatment.

I don't want to live in those other countries....the government controls much more that a nice health care system...it is a much larger and much more convoluted issue than you are seeing.

dont want to argue ...I just feel the need to point out what is being missed.

take care

Hi There, I'm from the UK a Buddhist, vegetarian, and a European climate change activist. I'm in my 77 year and I suffer with an incurable illness plus other issuse.

I work on the Internet in my rented flat, on the south coast of our island, fo health reason and good medical care, on a very low pension, because of the Bush/Blair partnership, with support from a few friends.

I have lived in a socialist country Spain for the Past 20 years, and receive better treatment here in Tenerife than I would under a profit making insurance company system.

The conservative misguided government in Spain was thown out, at the last election, because of its support for Bush/Blair and the Iraq War which has cost thousands of lives on all sides and billions of €s.

One or two of your commentators would obviously prefer the Bush style of misguided government, BHOs type of governance is much better for the USA and a good example for the rest of the world.

Whatever benefits the noise makers get at the Town Hall meetings in the USA. I expect that they would also receive the same benefits, if they supported the pollution of our atmosphere and the increased size of the hole in the ozone layer, which is about 29.5 million square kilometres, above the Antarctic Pole. please visit my blog and leave a comment. Sincerely Mike In Tenerife
