American Embarassment - Bush and Huckabee

What a pathetic attempt at humor...

Dubya had his turn at pathetic, too. In Israel, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the country's 'birth', Bush said that Obama was an appeaser, then leveled a verbal shot at Iran. He reminds me of the attorney I saw make a toast at a legal assistant's birthday party. His toast was, "Here's to rape, robbery, and restitution!" A-hem...

Appeasement

Appeasement Malarkey

Neville Chamberlain

The Munich Agreement

If the US talks to Iran, do you think it is appeasement? Consider the fact that today's situation is much different. In the Middle East situation, it is not just one country that has a problem with Israel and the US. All radical Muslims do. You can find radical Muslims in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, most other countries in the Middle East, as well as in Africa and Indonesia. The Western image of a fight or struggle being between two countries does not translate accurately in the Middle East. The Muslim world is one of tribes, clans, and Islam. Borders are often ignored.

Even if it were a very close parallel of the Germany-Britain-France-Italy situation, I don't hear of anyone offering land. The US is occupying Iraq, and Israel is in what used to be Palestine. The borders of Israel extended to include more land in 1967, during the war in which Syria and Egypt attacked Israel. She fought back - and then some.

When you hear appeasement being thrown around like a dirty word, as the lunatic fringe has done with the word liberal, think again. Are you being propagandized by the media?

My son and I agreed that the 'media' only veils the actual truth with it's layers of bias, glitz, and appeal to the lowest instincts of the 'sheeple'. If you really want to learn the truth about a situation, you have to do a little searching for different sources. If you're not sure about what you've heard or read, keep investigating until you feel confident about the facts.

 Cheney's Acquisition

Jenna Bush is getting married today, but it's also a black-letter day for Dick Cheney.

 May, Sore Throats, and Hitmen

What's been going on? I hope your world is good.

My son had strep throat for about 10 days. His pediatrician prescribed amoxicillin. After 7 days, a rash developed. The pediatrician said to discontinue the medication. After 2 nights of "Grease", put on by his class, and a cast party, he had a bit of a relapse. The sore throat returned. It took a couple of days but he's back in action. His class is going camping by Mono Lake in 2 weeks. My other son is going to San Francisco with his high school chorus. They will perform in Union Square and Grace Cathedral! He leaves the day before the other son leaves on the camping trip and, no, I'm not going although it sounds awesome.

I've been reading some great books for the past week or so. I read Water for Elephants, a really great story about life as a circus veterinarian, as told when in old age. I highly recommend it! I read The Criminal Mind by Stanton Samenow. He claims that personal choice is always involved when one commits a crime. The way to actually change has to involve a change in the thought process, which is very hard work but can be done. His argument is very convincing! Now, I'm reading The Secret History of the American Empire, by
John Perkins. Do you know who made the shirt you're wearing? Are you paying $4.10 per gallon of gasoline, like others in Southern California? Are you curious about the corporatocracy running much of the world? You must read this book. The author also wrote Confessions of an Economic Hitman. These should be required reading for all Americans.

 Flush Rush

Rush Limbaugh, who is long past wearing out his welcome on the airwaves of America and the rest of the world, was telling his listeners to travel to Denver, Colorado, during the Democratic Convention in late summer to riot.  I guess his motivation (which I truly am not sure about since I don't think the way he does) is to make the DNC look bad and disrupt their nominating process leading to the 2008 presidential election.

I have been offended and disgusted by his heartless cruelty toward homeless persons, women, children, and anyone else who does not think like he does since the first day I heard his, what some call a, show.  I thank God that each day is coming closer to the end of this pill fiend's voice blasted over the airwaves.

If you heard his comments yesterday and were offended or otherwise dislike what he said on general principle, you can file a complaint with the FCC via computer.  I did and I am sure many, many others are doing the same.

Vote for The Supreme Court Not a President

Comments on my post about the candidates brought me back to thinking about something I want to remind people.  The Supreme Court gets justices appointed for life by the president.  Bush has appointed a couple of conservative votes therein.  There are laws and ways of life that could be overturned or turned upside down by the appointment of even more strictly conservative justices.  We stand to see 2 or 3 new justices appointed by the next president.  The choice we make for president, because of the Supreme Court appointments, will be with us and our children, and grandchildren, for a good 30 or 40 years.

Depending on your viewpoint, that could be a giant step backward.  Or forward.  For that reason, alone, I will definitely vote for ANY Democratic candidate for president.   The Iraq Occupation, terrorism, the economy, health insurance, our homes being foreclosed upon, weakening of unions, 'free trade', all of these are major issues.  And I know that people take in their 'gut instinct' and their visual impressions when they decide upon their favored candidate.

This is my view about the election in this year.  I still wonder if there will be yet another "Pearl Harbor" or other reason for Bush/Cheney to establish martial law and then postpone or cancel the elections.  I wouldn't put it past them.
