 What's a Pincurl?

I know you're wondering what happened to that poor little girl's hair...her mom set it in pincurls the night before her class picture. (God bless you, mom, you did your best...and I love you!)

Here's how you can style your own hair just like that!!

While hair is still damp from washing, take sections of hair and curl around and around and around your finger, but not too tight to slip off your finger. Finished going around? Okay, slip the curl off the end of your finger and fasten to your head with a bobby pin or hair clip. Let dry. Unfasten, shake head, and viola! Curls... If your hair is naturally straight, put a bit of styling gel on each section of hair. >> CAUTION: If your hair is naturally curly or wavy, them curls might end up really, really tight, like mine. << So watch it...

When I was 11, I tried to style my hair into a flip, which was the popular style among teenagers. By 13, I was trying to straighten my hair. I wanted to look like Cybill Shepherd (blonde). By 17, I wanted to look like Jaclyn Smith (brunette!). In these attempts, I set my hair on orange juice cans, used jello as styling gel, and ironed my hair. The ironing worked well but the scent of burnt hair clashed with my Eau (or Oh!) de London perfume. What works the best is drying by sections held straight. Another idea is to use yer head as a roller - wrapping all hair in one direction around forehead, ear, back of head, around other ear, and keep going, clip to hold in place when done. It will dry straight. Just be careful to keep brushing and smoothing while getting into place before clipping up to avoid kinks here and there.

Hair, to me, is power. Hair can invite, tempt, warm, hide, or reveal. ;-) Now, take Jake E. Lee's hair - check out "jakeelee.com". He's very talented and has played guitar with Ozzy and Badlands (great music!) Oh, that hair - now that's hair I'd love to grab and ... well, nevermind that.

No offense to hairless beings. Just not my type. Give me that lion's mane... grrrrrr.... be well, lulu

 Goofy Kid Pictures

Man is a living entity, a conscious son of God (a soul) occupying an animal body. Here lies the point. He is therefore in the nature of a link, and a far from missing link.

And so, I just wanted to emphasize that, if you've read the 100 Interesting Things About Me, when I did go-go dancing in 1967 I wore clothes! I have one picture which is really strange. My mother had a habit of taking my picture after telling me to "look like you are dancing". The problem is the pictures look like I'm playing freeze tag, in suspended motion or something. The fringe on the dress is just hanging perfectly vertical while my arms are up in the air and I have a goofy look on my face. These old things are priceless. They always make me laugh. At this point in my life, I can laugh at those weird photos and share them instead of hide them from the light of day. Wait until you see the class photo where my mom pincurled my hair the night before!! It is so stupid!!!!!

Babies on Rugs?

I am thinking of tearing up the picture of my older son, lying on his tummy when a baby nekkid on a sheepskin, because it is so beneath his dignified beingness.

If you have kids, did you have "bare-skin rug" pictures and did you keep them or let the kid tear them up? I am not in favor of embarassing my kids. I know too well how it feels....

 Dedicated to Kit

I've been thinking of Kit alot lately. I saw a picture of him in a junior high school yearbook when I was 14. I thought he was really, really, really cute and he had a neat sparkle in his eyes. When I finally entered San Marcos High School, he was a senior. He drove past me one time in his Chevy panel truck. I thought, "What a babe!" But he had a girlfriend then.

When I was 19 or 20 I went to a party with my friend, Karen. Kit was there and we began to talk over the punch (and vodka) bowl. The rest was like a dream. He was really the great love of my life.

We were in a car accident in 1974 which brought on alot of back pain. I used lots of medications for the pain and we just got to the point where it wasn't fun any more (for him). When we split up, I fell into the most desolate time - 1975.

After that, either he had a girlfriend or else I had a boyfriend. We never made it back together again although he checked out a VW I wanted to buy and we had some laughs. We drove to Ventura together once when he had to pick up a crankshaft. I think we would have found our way back together given more time. But Kit died in a car accident involving alcohol.

That was about 19 years ago. So many times I wish he were around so I could just talk with him. Elton John's Yellow Brick Road was THE album around the time we were together. Bare Trees by Fleetwood Mac, alot of Rod Stewart, and Bad Company was the music we listened to; it brings such vivid memories to mind.

Kit was a machinist and built custom VW engines and Porsche engines. He would probably love my '71 yellow bug. My car and the music are still my connections to Kit. Until next time...I miss him so, so, so much.

Moral of story: Don't take your beloved for granted. Be GOOD to your honey, too.

 Oh, No!

I just heard more upsetting news about SB. There is a neat cliff with access to the beach called More Mesa. It's a few miles (I think) of open space between Hope Ranch and Goleta. It is for sale...

This could be OK news if someone buys it to preserve it. But, the developers have been building everywhere they could get a cement mixer to. This is very sad. A few major open space areas have gone that way since we were stuck with the current higher mucky-mucks.

A few years ago, another beautiful beach with a cliff and open space with trees and a hang-glider take-off/landing spot were saved by the efforts of our community and the Douglas family. Kirk Douglas has a place in SB, and his children and grandchildren are a presence in the area. People were taking donations and having bake sales to get the money to purchase the property, the Wilcox Property. The Douglas family threw in enough to make it happen. It is now called the Douglas Family Preserve and it is a very beautiful area.

This place will never be the beautiful place it was in the '60's and '70's. lulublue

 Who Is Smedley Butler???

If you do not know about Smedley Butler, you should. His book, a short read, should be required reading for every American if not every soul on earth.

http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/articles/warisaracket.htm

I heard him mentioned on the Randi Rhodes (hope I spelled the name right) show yesterday and had to go check it out. I guess he's the one who clued in late President Eisenhower about the "military industrial complex".

Smedley was in the Marines for 30+ years. When he left, he wrote about what he observed because he thought some Americans might not like what what going on. His book is entitled "War is a Racket" and it is available to read for free on the internet. Wikipedia has a good bio page for Butler, too.

I feel strongly that the administration's billionaires and their billionaire friends who have prospered so in the last 6 years should contribute generously to Uncle Sam as repayment for the costs of their expedition overseas. America does not need to have children go to bed for the night hungry or homeless. American veterans should not be wanting for anything much less a meal, home, or medical care. So few have become so wealthy thanks to so many; i.e. veterans and us taxpayers!

Have you ever eaten an Ambrosia apple? New varieties of apple are showing up - like Cameo, Pink Lady, and others. I tried an Ambrosia recently in a juicer recipe and it was great! If you like apples, you must eat an Ambrosia apple.

So for now...keep 'em bouncin'.....lulu
