Homeless: Streets of Santa Barbara

 America, Wake Up

I am getting up from the wrong side of the bed today. I hear a lot of talk from people about gas prices. Gas prices?! I guess it's the idea of "how does this affect me?" when it comes to the news.

I hear people asking why the prices are going up. Then the ownership status, the situation in the Middle East, we need to drill for gas off our coast, and all this garbage spews forth. Accept it. You're being taken for a fool. Exxon will have another most profitable quarter the next time we hear from them, no doubt.

You voted to put a bunch of 'oil men' in charge, enough of you so some friends and the Supreme Court put them over the top and into the White House. The first thing they were planning was how to get into Iraq to get rid of their old buddy, Saddam, so they could stop the generous flow of oil from Iraq. They figured it out. The price of gas has skyrocketed since Inauguration Day of 2000. You've been used; walked all over.

Stop asking for someone to help make the gas prices go down. It won't happen unless you are serious. Stop whining. You still drive humongous cars that suck gas. Supply and demand. You don't seriously think anyone with the power actually wants to make the prices go down do you?

When Americans stop demanding so much oil/gas, we might see prices level off. I don't think they'll go down. Ever. Drive less. Drive an alternative fuel car. Demand slower freeway speed limits from elected officials. Start actually cutting back.

Americans have not been asked to sacrifice a dang thing during the "occupation/war" in the Middle East. Lives have been sacrificed but it may not affect you. In the past we had gas rationing. There were victory gardens. Individuals did what was in their own power to conserve in order to fight to win.

In case you haven't heard yet, the number of troops in Iraq could double by Christmas. More surges. Yet ANOTHER change in strategy. They're talking about a 'political' solution, not a military solution. Bush says we "gotta fight al qaeda". Al Qaeda was never in Iraq until Saddam was removed from power - by Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Wolfowitz, Perl, et al. neo cons. Although Bush's approval rating is the lowest it has been, people talk of impeachment, and people protest, there is no way that those foxes will leave the hen house as long as they have the power to be in there.

The people that were elected to help bring this thing to an end so our families could come home have decided to save their own tails instead of actually stand up to the war profiteers. They have lost their collective resolve.

So, no one is going to come along with a magic pill to bring down gas prices. It will just keep rising as long as you demand it. Stop demanding.

Dictator Bush - Presidential Directive 51

Bernie Ward AND Ray Taliaferro of KGO-AM were talking about this on their latest show:

National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive
NATIONAL SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/NSPD 51

HOMELAND SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/HSPD-20

Subject: National Continuity Policy

This NSPD will allow Bush to be in charge of all three levels of government, the whole enchilada, in the event of a significant national catastrophe. No checks and balances; no limitations; no rational thinking!

Apparently, these directives are issued by a president without any approval. Even when his approval rating is around 20%!!!!

You can read it for yourself.

Exactly what is considered to be the 'catastrophe' is pretty broad, if you ask me.

What do we do about this?? Is the mainstream media reporting on this? Americans have some homework to do. At the very least, writing to senators and reps. is called for.

Does this sound good to you? Do you feel safe?

Does this sound like the United States?

 The Annual Class Camping Trip

This morning we got up earlier than usual. I heard the first 30 seconds from the Pink Floyd song, 'Time' loud and clear from my 12 year old's alarm in order to get to school before 8 am. Things were packed, sleeping bag rolled tight, and no technical devices were included as we prepared for the annual class camping trip!

Beginning in Second grade with an overnight trip to a nearby
beachside camping spot, the alternative school schedules camping trips for each class. Adding another night each year, up to the 6 day - 5 night trip to the Sequoias, these trips are cherished by students, teachers, and parents. Parents go as chaperones, which is never a problem to recruit because there is such a high degree of parent involvement in the school in the first place.

This year my 6th grader is going a couple of hours away into the Los Padres National Forest to the east of Santa Barbara.

I wish I could go but because of my chronic pain and fatigue "issues" with my health, I wouldn't make it too far. After 20 minutes of helping to load things into a truck and standing around visiting, I had to go sit in my car to "recover".

The above photo was taken during the dry summer months. The river will be perfect for swimming and fishing at this time in May. Plenty of oak trees are covering the area to give cool shade and someplace to see birds and squirrels! Oaks are one of the trees natural to this area despite the number of eucalyptus which were not as widespread until recently. Oaks symbolize strength and collecting acorns is always a popular camping pastime!

No ipods, cell phones, or battery-powered games are allowed, which is a stretch for these tech-savvy kids. I know they will have a great time. My son was so happy about going camping this year! He will share a tent with his 2 best buddies. There will be plenty of giggling and silliness from that tent, I can tell you that. Meanwhile, my older son and I will be heard to say, "I wonder what they're doing right now?" a few times each day. It will be pretty quiet around here.

 Saturday Night Psychedelic Beatles Show

I have always liked this song but the one I hear recently has a certain descending bass note that goes very deep. It must be from a newer release of the song.

Go in Peace - Enjoy your Saturday night! Blessings, Lulublue
