Homeless: Streets of Santa Barbara

 Let's Not Forget

We can get a new start this year!  A new government next year!  We can get our constitution back!  I look forward to the primaries coming up.  This week it will be in Iowa.

Let's not forget the many, many reasons we need someone very different.

Many reasons are here.

The media refuses to pay much attention to Edwards.  They'd just as soon have people not know anything about him.  Know why?  He's not into corporations running things like the media.  He's fought corporate greed and monopoly his entire career.

Biden is one of the most qualified men to run for the presidency in a long time.  Dodd has the courage it takes, many times over.

Let's not forget to remind others to vote in the primaries and be sure to vote yourself when the time comes!

 Nativity at The Mission

Christmas Eve around 7:30 PM I journeyed over to the S.B. Mission again to see if Baby Jesus had appeared.  Yes, He was there.  It was VERY windy.  Ashes from the Zaca fire in the backcountry were blowing all over with dust, again, even after the good rain we had last week.  The trees placed around the Mission's front law had blown over, but there were still troopers out there in the cold night.

Merry Christmas!!

 Beatles Christmas

Each year the Santa Barbara Mission sets up a nativity scene on the front lawn. I went over to see it today. The animals are always popular. Instead of the mannequins with clothes as they've had in the past, there are some beautiful statues/figures instead. I'll have to go back to catch a view of Baby Jesus.

Also, the oldest rock 'n' roll station in S.B. plays all Beatles music from 6 PM on Christmas Eve until about 9 PM on Christmas night. I absolutely love it.

Enjoy the music and the photos! I included some pics from home, too. If I don't see you, Merry Christmas!

It was a beautiful day with a fairly clear view of the Pacific and the Channel Islands.  You can't see the 5 oil platforms out there in this photo, but you usually can't miss them.

Wild Thing likes to sit under the tree, especially next to one of her favorite techno-gadgets, the printer.

It was funny to see the horses checking each other out.

Heading for the gift shop...

I bought myself a rose-scented rosary in a little case, a small cross pin with crystals, a small dove/Spirit pin, a purple/rose St. Christopher medal, and a statue of St. Michael, the Archangel. I love these kinds of things.  I will go back for St. Raphael and St. Gabriel.  There was a pretty turquoise blue St. Christopher medal, and a...

Evidence of the drought is above in the chalk drawing on the Mission grounds which is still there from last May's I Madonnari, an Italian sidewalk chalk drawing festival! That's a long time for those to last.

Also, here's a photo of my boys and me. The younger one is sitting down folding some origami. The older one was about to leave the room for the computer, so it was this pic, as is, or nothing. This was from my birthday dinner at my in-laws' house, December 7. (I really gotta' lose some weight...) By the time I got rid of the red eye, our eyes looked distorted. It's pretty rare that we are all in one place at the same time, willing to have a photo taken!

 Staying Warm and Dry

We're just staying inside today. It's drizzling out there and it's supposed to rain later today. We have several birthdays in the next 10 days as well as Christmas and New Year's Day.

I keep thinking about the poor guy run over by a garbage truck. What a weird way to leave this world. I want to be lying in bed, smelling roses and gardenias, with candles lit, and hearing someone read the "Tibetan Book of the Dead" with cool music in the background. Maybe a bite of rocky road candy, too. But, as a friend used to say, we all have different paths down the road and we don't know why people choose certain other paths. That's for sure.

 Is He Nuts?!?

Bush Says He Hopes to Sign $500 Billion Budget Bill, if Democrats Accept Funding for US Troops By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (Associated Press) -- President Bush said Monday he is hopeful he can sign a $500 billion-plus catchall spending bill emerging on Capitol Hill, but only after Democrats agree to accept funding for U.S. troops in Iraq. Bush's Democratic rivals introduced a year-end measure that mostly sticks within Bush's budget even as it shifts billions of dollars into politically sensitive domestic programs he sought to cut. "We're making some pretty good progress toward coming up with a fiscally sound budget, one that meets priorities, helps on some emergencies and enables us to say that we've been fiscally sound with the people's money," Bush said Monday.???? !!!!!!!!!! The mammoth 1,482-page bill has been shorn of Democratic policy riders that drew White House veto threats, such as an attempt to ease restrictions on aid to overseas family planning groups that provide abortions. Also dropped was a House provision to expand the Davis Bacon Act, which requires contractors and subcontractors to pay workers locally prevailing wages and fringe benefits, so that it would apply to Homeland Security Department projects. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "...we've been fiscally sound with the people's money." You can't be serious...does anyone think this administration has at any time in the last 6 or 7 years been 'fiscally sound' with the people's money??? We are in debt up to our ears, what surplus Clinton left has disappeared, and billions, maybe trillions when all is said and done, has gone to occupy and fight in Iraq. Bush is living on another planet. He is apparently so buffered from the truth by his side-kicks, as well as exhibiting certain behaviors which would call for psychiatric treatment for anyone (who says he isn't receiving it now, eh?) else, he is absolutely out of touch with life in the USA. I knew his dad was out of touch during the debate with Clinton when someone in the audience asked each candidate how much a loaf of bread cost. Clinton was close, but Bush's dad tried to put everyone's attention on his wife, saying grocery shopping was something Barbara, a female, would know about. Ahem...He was clueless. And we have seen that it runs in the family since 2000. Thank Heavens we elect a new president in 2008 and it's almost here...
