I have had my first root canal. My dentist completed the treatment in 2 visits. The first visit ended with my not having too much pain. The one from this past Monday has caused a bit more pain.
I was used to having some sort of dental treatment without any problem; orthodontist, oral surgeon, etc. Not a big deal...until 1985. I went to a dentist someone recommended but it left me with a sincere pledge to myself to never return. Despite novocaine, I still felt it. He gave me more novocaine, but I still felt it. I put my hand up to signal a stop to the drill, but he kept on going, saying, "Just one more minute, I'm almost done." Yikes!! I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
It took years for me to go back to a dentist. Not wanting my children to go through that same ordeal, I went back (just one small cavity), and I make sure my kids go twice a year. One has no cavities (at 16 yrs.), and the younger child (11 yrs.) has had 3 small cavities filled. The older child had fluoride as a pre-schooler, the younger one did not. So we now rinse only with water with fluoride to protect tooth enamel. We do not ingest fluoride. If you want a fright, search fluoride on Google. It seems to protect tooth enamel but weakens bones and disfigures teeth (fluorosis or fluoridosis??) when too much is taken internally.
I have resolved to go to the dentist too often, so I don't have to go at all. Sort of like praying so one doesn't have to. In recovery, we attent 12 step meetings so we don't have to go to a meeting. Maintenance instead of major overhaul, so to speak.
Be well, all! lulu in pain
